Peyton Dollar is a fine artist and painter based in Nashville, TN. For eight years of his career, Peyton identified as a photographer working across the music and editorial industry. Feeling restricted by the 35mm frame, he began moving away from the role of observer and into creator. Borrowing from these years of visual experience, Peyton has translated his compositional and creative skills to the canvas where imagination knows no bounds.

Peyton's process isn't so much defined by realism as much as it is abstraction and the subtleties of figuration. Obsessed with the difference between what is real and what isn't, Peyton's work quietly recalls back to physical landscapes, trading shape and light for color and gesture. This tension is the beating pulse across not just his work, but also his philosophy between mediums and identity. He's less interested in replicating reality and instead more drawn to reinventing it through his own lens.

Peyton draws inspiration from artists throughout art history such as De Kooning, Cecily Brown, and Cy Twombly, but nods to his former experiences and memories as source material to pull from.

Peyton currently works inside his home where he continues to explore new visual languages, protect his creative space, and make room for slowness in the contemporary, fast moving world.
